Lab tours on the university campus aimed at any pre-16 educational providers or college and for Year groups 8-12. Depending upon year groups, the tours can be split appropriately. There is no maximum/limit on numbers, but please book by Friday 6th October so that the appropriate logistic arrangements can be made.
Manufacturing is at the heart of many engineering activities. Understanding different raw materials, their properties, and how they can be shaped, processed and fitted together - ultimately to be turned into products that we all need and use - is fundamental to engineers, who are responsible for providing society with a sustainable, vast range of manufactured goods.
Consider what you have done so far today and how that relies on manufacturing industries to make our lives work. When you first woke, you probably reached for your phone, put together by a range of specialist manufacturers. Maybe you ate breakfast cereal, used shower gel and toothpaste, and travelled somewhere safely by a vehicle manufactured from many components? Who manufactured the clothes you wear, the technology you are using, the medicines, medical devices, packaging and components of all that make our lives run smoothly?
At the University of Bradford, we are experts in many aspects of manufacturing and during tours of our teaching and research workshops and laboratories, you will get a chance to learn about the processing and manufacturing of polymer, metal, ceramic and composite materials. Visit the Advanced Materials and Polymer Micro and Nanotechnology research centres, the chemical engineering laboratories, manufacturing workshops, and concrete and civil engineering labs. Learn about extrusion, moulding, additive manufacturing, CNC machining, reacting, separating, and design for manufacture. ... there is much to see and understand.
Precision machining, extrusion, injection moulding and precision micro-moulding, 3D printing/additive manufacturing, chemical engineering reactor and distillation column, automotive engineering, casting and extrusion of building materials
